PS5 WILL BE ABLE TO RUN OLD GAMES FROM PS1 to PS4

Leaks regarding the PlayStation 4 (PS4) successor game console, Playstation 5 (PS5), are circulating again.

This time there is a patent document that states that the PS5 will be able to run old games from PS1 to PS4.

The patent describing the "impersonating CPUID for backward compability" technology was registered with the Japanese patent office January 20, 2017 and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment on January 31, 2019.

Patent documents illustrate how the PS5 console will be able to run old games, namely with emulation techniques.

The game "tricked" so as to run with the previous console hardware, including by means of "spoofing" alias displays the processor ID in accordance with the original console of the game in question.

PS5 itself is predicted to use a processor (CPU) and GPU with the latest architecture that is faster than its predecessors. However, this architecture is not necessarily the same as the previous generation of consoles.

For now, PS2 emulators are already available to PS4 owners through the PlayStation Store. Then, some PS2 and PS3 games are offered to the PS4 through the PlayStation Now streaming service.
