Bayonetta's developer studio, Platinum Games, first announced the development of Scalebound on the E3 2014 event. The game was originally planned to be released at the end of 2016, exclusive to the Xbox One and PC. This game had undergone a time shift released to 2017. But on January 9, 2017, Microsoft chose to cancel this project.
Microsoft's decision to cancel the development of this game is certainly unfortunate by various parties. Moreover, various Scalebound footage presents a pretty promising gameplay. For those of you who had been waiting for the release of this game, there is good news for you. Reportedly, here, the development will be revived.
Reported by Nintendo Insider, Scalebound development plans will be run again. However, this game will not be planned to be released again on the Xbox One or PC. The publishing rights of this game have been taken over by Nintendo. So, this game is planned to be released exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
Although it has been confirmed if the Scalebound development will be revived, there is no information whether Nintendo will use the Microsoft version of the development material or reboot the game. Platinum Games is arguably a pretty strong relationship with Nintendo. Not long ago, Platinum Games announced the latest game called Astral Chain which was released exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
If you have seen Scalebound footage, you might feel the nuances of Devil May Cry in this game. Obviously because the director, Hideki Kamiya, was previously the first Devil May Cry series director. This game tells the story of a guy named Drew who goes on an adventure with a dragon named Thuban.
In addition to news about the development of Scalebound, Platinum Games are preoccupied with preparing for the release of Bayonetta 3. They are also working on Babylon Fall which was announced at the E3 2018 event.
